Response to ABC Report:

The article posted early yesterday morning by the ABC is highly misleading, and it is shocking to see such low-quality journalism from the national broadcaster. The headline and story throughout have attempted to insinuate that Dr Li has, in the past, been closely tied with CCP and its operations.

The positions previously held by Dr Li were honorary titles, and have been apolitical, education, culture and language positions, and were unpaid, unofficial positions, a detail which has been stressed by Dr Li in discussions with the ABC but has been eschewed in the article. The only issues raised with groups within the article are ones of which Dr Li has had no influence over. It is therefore spurious and misleading to attempt to conflate the two to paint the picture that he has somehow been responsible for what other groups have done, and similar to the type of connections drawn by conspiracy theorists. Dr Li has also not been affiliated with CAN Media for over 15 years, a detail which appears to have been purposely overlooked. Dr Li may be from China, but he does not promote any parties including CCP, nor does he work for them in any capacity.

The only source provided is Clive Hamilton, who has held a long, public anti-Chinese sentiment, and even in the past year has used his platform to publicly peddle Trumpian conspiracy theories. It is shocking albeit unsurprising that the ABC has taken Hamilton's word as unbiased or with any credibility to peddle their CCP fear mongering. In truth, there is nothing but hearsay to back up their claims.

Fuxin LI is a local educator who took a risk in making Australia his home and has provided a Chinese education for thousands of children in Canberra and has been an Australian citizen for more than 20 years.

We hope that in the future, Dr Li's ties to his country of origin will not be used as political fodder. Australia has the potential to become a strong, diverse nation of many peoples, and the article posted yesterday morning is sadly a step back from that dream.

Response from the community:

I am extremely disappointed by the ABC's lowered standards of journalism.

I was an ABC cameraman in the 1960s and 1970s and proud of it. Morrison has corrupted the organisation with his own appointments of LNP supporters. The article is a result. Not satisfied with the toad Murdoch's propaganda, he is trying to use racism to gather votes and distract from his failures.

I wonder, what are Professor Hamilton's affiliations?  I believe Dr. Li is as entitled to contact with the Chinese government as I would be if I went to China after accepting an appointment as a lobbyist for DFAT. At the beginning of the Covid pandemic Dr Li helped distribute thousands of masks that were donated to Australia by Dr Li with assistance of the Chinese government.  I didn't hear any complaints then. That was before scummo and Dutton and other racists in our government kissed Trump's arse and began bad-mouthing China.

We support you all the way.
